THE OFFICE / OBJECTS UP CLOSE

On the desk

Documents, maps, instruments and everyday objects. Larger photographs reveal inscriptions and signs of use. These collection objects are shown separately; they were not all Professor Shakhovtsov’s personal possessions.

Documents and personal objects

An exclusion-zone pass, a dosimeter in its case and a travel grooming kit show the ordinary things that accompanied work in the zone. The pass pictured is a separate collection object issued to another person.

Camera and maps

The Zenit TTL camera and maps offer two scales of looking: a detail in a frame and a place on a broader map. The pictured camera should not be confused with other cameras described elsewhere in the exhibition.

Measuring instruments

The ID-1 personal dosimeter set, ZD-6 charger, RL-1 radiometric slide rule and Prypiat radiometer are shown separately. The close-ups reveal scales, cases and instructions.

Time and light

An Agat stopwatch and a desk lamp are small, eloquent objects from the world of office work. Here they can be studied without haste.
